Why Should You Use a WordPress CDN in 2022?

We love researching and sharing ways to make your WordPress site faster as a performance hosting company. Using a content delivery network is one of the no-brainers when it comes to speed these days (CDN). They relieve the load on your web server while speeding up content delivery to your visitors, improving their experience!

Today, we'll explain in layman's terms how a WordPress CDN works, why you should use one, and some of the additional benefits that come with it. We'll also provide some speed tests to see how much of a performance boost you can expect on your site.

What exactly is a WordPress CDN? The term CDN stands for content delivery network. This is a network of servers (also known as POPs) located all over the world. They are intended to host and deliver copies of static (and sometimes dynamic) content from your WordPress site, such as images, CSS, JavaScript, and video streams.

Examine in-depth BunnyCDN Review, a lightning-fast and low-cost Content Delivery Network for speeding up your website. Essentially, we will go through many features of BunnyCDN such as Data Centers, Performance, Comparison with other CDNs, Pricing, Support, Documentation, and so on. Furthermore, in this article, you will learn more about BunnyCDN

BunnyCDN Review: Outstanding Features

Now that you have a brief description of the CDN company, let us enlighten you on some of its distinguishing qualities that set BunnyCDN apart from the competition:

1. Guaranteed 99 per cent uptime:

With data centres spread across 28 countries, BunnyCDN offers lightning-fast static asset delivery with a 99 per cent uptime guarantee. Its sophisticated SSD and NVMe-powered servers ensure that your web pages will load faster on consumers' devices, with latency of only 30 milliseconds regardless of their location!

2. Anycast DNS:

BunnyCDN has developed a Global Anycast DNS solution, a strong algorithm for routing and managing traffic, to optimize website performance and direct user requests to the nearest server. Because anycast DNS may route visitors' queries to the nearest PoP with fewer internet hops, it can reduce load time and improve user experience.

3. Dashboard:

BunnyCDN is not only a top-tier CDN service with a solid network architecture, but it also offers a lightning-fast UI and an easy-to-use dashboard.

4. BunnyCDN Image Optimiser:

BunnyCDN offers an Image Optimiser for £6.74/month, allowing webmasters to send optimized and high-quality images. With BunnyCDN Image Optimiser, compressing, restructuring, resizing, or minifying your images, JavaScript, or CSS files and distributing them as WEBP has never been easier!

5. Video Delivery Optimization:

The most important aspect of current websites is video. However, it can dramatically increase page size, which can interfere with effective page loading. BunnyCDN's globally distributed servers, backed by 18TBPS line capacity and NVMe SSD technology, ensure that your videos do not buffer and that your visitors have a flawless watching experience.

Bunny not only hosts videos but also provides an HTML5 player that you can embed in your web pages. Overall, it could be a viable alternative to current video hosting sites such as Vimeo and Wistia.

6. Cloud Storage:

BunnyCDN includes almost unlimited cloud storage, allowing website owners to store huge files while saving space on the origin server. BunnyCDN cloud storage allows you to save up to 10TB for as little as £0.0071 per month!

Storage Zones (also known as Edge Storage) allow you to permanently store files on BunnyCDN's servers in the same way that you would upload files to any web host. You can upload files to the storage using one of the following methods:

  1. Upload via the web interface
  2. FTP upload
  3. via BunnyCDN API

Storage zone linked to a pull zone functions similarly to a Push CDN (equivalent to an Amazon S3 bucket linked to Cloudfront CDN).

It is sufficient for backups and archiving needs that do not require public access to the contents. Consider it a low-cost alternative to S3 or Dropbox. Object storage, rather than file-based storage, is the technology underpinning it. As a result, there are no restrictions on the quantity of files that can be stored in a zone.

Furthermore, you can deliver the files to your users from a public URL (for example, in a pull zone). Connect a pull zone (yep, a pull zone) to the Storage zone and point its origin URL to it.

Geo-replication is also supported by the storage zones, which adds redundancy and reduces latency. Replication is now available in the following locations:

  • Los Angeles
  • New York
  • London
  • Stockholm
  • Falkenstein
  • Singapore
  • Sydney
Pricing is also quite reasonable – $0.005 per GB per location every month. If you choose all five locations, the total cost is $0.45/GB/month.

7. HTTP/2:

It also has HTTP/2 functionality, allowing a site to load several files at the same time. By dividing the CSS, you may speed up your site. Furthermore, you can now compress photos for faster delivery using GZip and Brotli.

8. Free SSL Certificate:

Unless your CDN includes cutting-edge security, your site's content and visitors may be vulnerable to security breaches. BunnyCDN provides a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate to safeguard your site, applications, and end-users. It also enables you to use third-party certificates.

One-click Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates via BunnyCDN portal.

9. Real-time analytics and reports:

BunnyCDN provides real-time analytics and reports to monitor your traffic, bandwidth usage, and cached content for better control and management.

10. 54 Edge Locations or PoPs (Jul 2022):

A CDN's datacenter location is quite important. It would be faster for them if you were closer to your target audience. BunnyCDN operates 54 PoPs on a Tier 1 network.

11. Pull Zones

A pull zone lets you specify the base URL from which the CDN should cache files.

Two URLs are required to configure a pull zone:

  • Origin URL
  • Hostname or CDN URL

As a result, whenever a request encounters a Hostname, the CDN checks to see if the file is available in the edge cache. Otherwise, it retrieves the file from your origin server and transmits it to the user.

The file is then saved in the cache of the edge location for future requests. As a result, the next visitor from that location will be serviced more quickly.

11.1 Create a new Pull Zone

Let's look at how to make a pull-zone for your website. After you've signed up and logged in, go to the Pull Zones page and click the Add Pull Zone button.

On the next page you have to set three things:

  1. Hostname & Origin – URLs Set the hostname to the name of your website. Enter your site's domain as the Origin URL. If you only want CDN on a single folder, add it to the domain name (e.g., mysite.com/images).

Please keep in mind that you might have numerous pull zones for different directories on your site. For example, you can configure one pull zone for mysite.com/images and another for mysite.com/assets Standard or Volume Tier – Standard is the default setting. For the most part, keep it that way.

  2. If your visitors come from all over the world, make sure to check all four zones. Otherwise, uncheck any unneeded boxes.
  3. The zones of South Africa and South America are more expensive than the other two. As a result, turning it off can help you save money on your monthly payments.

11.2 Standard & Volume Tiers:

BunnyCDN provides two kinds of Pull zones: standard and volume. Standard will be the best selection for the majority of sites. Volume tier is designed specifically for caching huge files such as films. However, it is only available in a few outlying areas (see the image above).

Finally, to activate the newly added zone, click the Add Pull Zone button. Following that, you will be taken to a page with instructions for integrating the Pull Zone with your WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or HTML website.

Take note of the newly formed pull zone's URL (looks like ****.b-cdn.net). Then, on the Pull Zone's Edit page, click the Skip Instructions button.

12. Origin shield

Another feature that is comparable to Perma-cache is the Origin shield. As a result, you only need to activate one of them.

When you enable the origin shield, all requests to your origin servers are routed through the shielding server. However, unlike Perma-cache storage zones, shield locations do not permanently cache files.

WordPress integration

Integrating and enabling CDN is simple by using BunnyCDN's WordPress plugin. The first step is to install it from the WordPress dashboard.

After installing it, navigate to the plugin's Settings page. If you haven't already, enter the name of your pull zone and click Enable.

If you previously configured a sub-domain, click Switch to Advanced View. Enter the subdomain and press the Enable button.

All settings are now complete. Open your site and inspect one of the assets to ensure that the new CDN URL is visible.

Using the BunnyCDN WordPress plugin is optional. If you already have a caching plugin installed, such as W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache, you can replace the links from the cache plugin's settings page. To understand how, go to the W3 Total Cache settings tutorial.

Remember to clear any cache after enabling CDN. Otherwise, the previous URLs may still be active.
